Lee Pulliam, 91, of Valdosta died Sunday, March 24, 2019 at her home. She was born in Macon, Georgia on December 5, 1927 to the late Emmett U. and Sankie Chiles Holder. Mrs. Pulliam was a member of First Baptist Church in Valdosta since 1962 where she taught Sunday School to all ages from three years to ninety three years old. She graduated from Valdosta State College with a Bachelors of Art with majors in English and Theatre and a minor in Social Studies. Mrs. Pulliam taught English, Speech and Theatre for thirty two years with twenty one years at Valdosta High School and served as Chair of the English Department. In 1959 she was named Teacher of the Year for the Tift County School System and in 1982 Teacher of the Year for the Valdosta City Schools System. In 1991 she was named STAR Teacher for Valdosta High School. She was a member of several book clubs including Book Fellows at the South Georgia Regional Library and Literary Guild of Valdosta.
Survivors include her children and their spouses, David and Kathy Pulliam of Salisbury, NC., Lynne Pulliam of Valdosta, Robert and Christine Pulliam of Suwanee, GA; two grandchildren, Abigail Pulliam, Jackson Pulliam both of Suwanee, GA; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred H. Pulliam and two sisters, Sancil Holder of Tifton and Mary Blackburn of Tallahassee, FL.
Funeral services will be held at 3pm, Tuesday, March 26, 2019 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Mac Weaver officiating. Burial will follow in Oakridge Cemetery in Tifton. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2pm-3pm at the funeral home. Flowers accepted or memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 200 W.
