Bertha Lee Johnson Little
Mrs. Bertha Lee Johnson, 109 of Omega, Georgia entered eternal rest on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at her residence.
A visitation will be held Friday, December 13, 2019, 5PM-7PM at Simmon Grove Baptist Church in Omega, Georgia. Funeral service will be held Saturday, December 14, 2019, 11 AM at Beulah Hill Family Life Center, 321 Tifton Eldorado Road, Tifton, Georgia. Interment will occur at Greenwood Cemetery; Martin Luther King, Jr., Drive in Tifton, Georgia and Repast will follow at Leroy Rogers Senior Center, 315 2nd Street W, Tifton, Georgia.
Mrs. Little was born October 17, 1910 in Abbeville, Georgia to the late William Johnson and the late Sophronia Mobley Johnson. Mother Little has been a resident of Omega, Georgia for over 90 years. She was united in marriage to Herbert Little in 1931 and to this union they had nine children. Her faith was extremely important to her existence; it was her foundation and was visible in all of her actions. She was a member of Simmon Grove Baptist Church in Omega, Georgia for 70 years serving as the Mother of the church, Sunday school teacher, President of the usher board and as a Deaconess. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and served as Grand Marshall of the Pepper Festival in Omega at the tender age of 103.
Mother Little possessed a love of life that was infectious and a zeal for always learning. At the age of 50 years old, she learned to drive and at the young age of 104 years old, she learned to ride a bicycle and hula hoop. She was always fashionable and known for her stylish hats. She worked on the lunch room staff at Wilson High School and later in life had the pleasure of preparing and serving biscuits for our 39th President, James Earl "Jimmy" Carter. Her life spanned over a century experiencing the many changes in our community, state and nation. She lived to witness 19 U.S. Presidents serving from Taft to Trump.
She loved her family and they dearly loved her. She leaves lasting memories to her loving family: a son, Samuel (Mary Moore) Little of Riviera Beach, FL; daughters, Mary Francis Byrd of Jacksonville, FL, Doris (Glover) Harris of Tallahassee, FL, Nettie Mae Brumfield and Erma Jean Donaway of Riviera Beach, FL, and Mary (Robert) Stokes of Omega, GA; 23 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, 25 great-great grandchildren, 2 great-great- great grandchildren, special friends, Fannie Brinson and Mary Lee Webb. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends and an entire community to cherish her legacy.
