George Henderson
Mr. George Henderson "Sonny" Barfield Jr., 81, of TyTy passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at Tift Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Albritton Funeral Directors with Rev. Jim Sumner officiating. Interment will follow in Tift Memorial Gardens. There will be no formal visitation.
Mr. Barfield was born November 13, 1938, in Tift County to the late George Barfield, Sr., and Ethel Lee Massey Barfield. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four sisters, Mildred Shiver, Marjorie Baker, Odene Baldree and Dolly Young. Mr. Barfield was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a retired technician from U. S. Department of Agriculture working with the watershed research department. He had lived in Tift County all of his life and was a man of strong faith who had taught Sunday school for many years at Unity Baptist Church in Tift County and attended Bible Baptist Church. Mr. Sonny loved Nascar and was the driver of the famous "Phantom" car. He was also a dirt track race driver. Mr. Barfield loved the Georgia Bulldogs. In his early years he worked with Case Tractor Company and was an excellent mechanic.
Mr. Barfield is survived by his wife Charlotte Ann Cribb Barfield; two daughters and sons-in-law Robin and Bob Tobin of Pooler and Georgia and Jeff Smith of Tifton; two sons Roger Barfield and Bobby Sutton of Tifton; five grandchildren Marie Lupinek, Michael Babbitt, Joey Griffin, Kari Chambers and Justin Sutton; seven great grandchildren; one brother Johnny Barfield of Massachusetts; one sister Joann Hamilton of Tifton.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Bible Baptist Church, 1220 Moore Hwy., Tifton, Ga. 31794.
