Herman L. Roberts, 72, of Alapaha, Georgia, died Monday, August 22, 2016, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Thursday, August 25, 2016, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Ocilla with Elder Harold Roberts and Deacon Eddie Gaskins officiating. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.

Mr. Roberts was born November 13, 1943, in Alapaha, Georgia, to the late Wilson & Alene Joiner Roberts. He worked as a store manager for Winn-Dixie stores in Dade County, Florida. He returned to Berrien County in 1981 from Hialeah, Florida and managed Lotts Liquor Store in Gladys, moved houses with Lamar Green, worked as a debarker at Moores Saw Mill and supervised the receiving department on the rail dock at Deep South. Mr. Roberts was an avid hunter and fisherman and he loved to garden. He was known to share his catch and his bountiful vegetables with friends and neighbors. He was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gari L. Roberts of Alapaha; a son, Lawrence Lamar Roberts of Nashville; siblings: Merice & Betty Roberts of Ocilla, Betty Jean Anderson of Ocilla, and Jerry Roberts of Port St. Joe, Florida. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
