TIFTON - James Buren "J.B." Carr, 86, of Tifton, died Sunday, Oct. 11, 2015, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Albritton Funeral Directors with the Rev. Gerald Purvis officiating. Interment will follow at Oakridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Born July 11, 1929 in Irwin County to the late Jack and Artie Bledsoe Carr, Mr. Carr was the former owner of Carr's Grocery on Highway 125 North. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dalton Carr. Mr. Carr served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War conflict. He was a longtime member of New River Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and superintendent. Mr. Carr enjoyed fishing, playing the mandolin and traveling. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Mr. Carr is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marthalyn Abbott Carr of Tifton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Stan and Joan Carr of Tifton and Randy and Margaret Carr of Macon; five grandchildren, Jill Carr, Katie (Jon) Sneed, Amy (Eric) Hagan, James Turnmire and Stephanie (Chad) Alexander; six great-grandchildren, Landon Sneed, Madison Sneed, Kailey Hagan, Eric Hagan Jr., Haley Alexander and Luke Alexander; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Monroe and Janie Carr of Newnan and Larry and Kay Carr of Tifton; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Joyce "Faye" Bryant of Norman Park and Janice and Morris Luke of The Villages in Florida; a sister-in-law, Shirley Carr of Tifton; and several nieces and nephews.
