I am so sorry that I wasn't able to attend the funeral. But, I will never forget the life lessons that you imparted as principal when I attended J.T. Reddick Middle School. I'm sure my late grandmother, Katheryn C. Kimber, who was a librarian at Reddick, and worked with you for many years, welcomed you with open arms, as you entered the gates of heaven. My prayers and condolences are with Kim, Courtney, your family, and former colleagues and students. Continue to rest in peace, until I see you again.

As an educator, John Smith was a great positive influence on the lives of numerous young people. As a civic leader, he contributed to the development of our Southside community. Leader, friend, father, husband. He will be missed.

Mr. Smith was my principal at JT Reddick and I have many fond memories of him. It always amazed me how he knew every students name and would always speak to you. I saw him about 10 years ago and I was shocked when he saw me and said well hello Mrs. Welch! It had been at least 20 years since he had been my principal. He was a wonderful man and he will be greatly missed.
