Ouida Carter NASHVILLE - Ouida Carter, 82, of Nashville, died Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Nashville First Baptist Church. The Rev. Billy Southerland, the Rev. Stan Nix and the Rev. Dan Nix will officiate. Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Lovein Funeral Home. Mrs. Carter was born on Oct. 6, 1924 in Berrien County. She was the daughter of Elbert Nix and Maxine Harper Nix, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husbands Edwin Wilson and J.W. Carter. She was a homemaker and retired teller/cashier with the Citizen's Bank. She was a member of Nashville First Baptist Church. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Larry Jackson of St. Augustine, Fla.; two grandchildren, Joe Ed Jackson of Valdosta and LeAnn Chaney of Nashville; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Juanelle Haskins, Mary Beth Harris and Sue Powell, all of Nashville; and three brothers, Hank Nix, Bobby Nix and Russell Nix, all of Nashville. Memorials are requested to First Baptist Church or Hospice of South Georgia. Lovein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. William S. Cooper Jr. TIFTON - William S. Cooper Jr., 54, of Tifton, died Monday, April 16, 2007, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. The Rev. Ray Dawson will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery. Jamie White, Heath Thompson, Bryan Thompson, John Tanner, David Tanner and Fred Chappell will serve as pallbearers. Employees of Cooper Construction Company will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mr. Cooper was born on June 21, 1952, in Tift County. He was the son of William S. Cooper Sr., who died on Feb. 21, 2005, and the late Janie Mae Camp Cooper. He was the owner/operator of Cooper Construction Company in Tifton. Survivors include his stepmother, Doris Blalock Cooper of Tifton; his special companion, Peggy Blacker of Tifton; two sons, William S. Cooper III of Tifton and Shay Patrick Cooper of Atlanta; two brothers, Jackie Cooper of Tifton and Jason Cooper of Tifton; and a sister, Susan Cooper of Tifton. Benefield, 56, of Enigma, died Monday, April 16, 2007, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Enigma Baptist Church. The Rev. Pete Jones will officiate. Burial will follow at Enigma Cemetery. The family will receive friend from 7 to 9 tonight at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Anthony Barnes, J.D. Mullis, Rocky Lott, Jimmy Christman, Faron O'Neal and Jimmy Lee will serve as pallbearers. Roger Bowen, Ricky Barnes and Nick Bombardier will serve as honorary pallbearers. Mr. Benefield was born on Jan. 2, 1951, in Fulton County. He was the son of Jack Davis Benefield and Annette Lott Benefield, both deceased. He was a member of the Enigma Baptist Church and former member of the Merchant Marines. He was disabled. Survivors include his wife, Charlene Griffin Benefield of Enigma; three sons, Dwayne Benefield, Dwight Benefield and Johnny Benefield, all of Enigma; two daughters, Mary Powers of Valdosta and Melissa Benefield of Moultrie; and nine grandchildren. Shivers, 77, of Ashburn, died Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at his residence following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ashburn First United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Perry Funeral Chapel in Ashburn. Mr. Shivers was born in Turner County and was the son of the late A.F. Shivers Sr. and Willie White Shivers. He lived all of his life in Turner county. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a member of the Ashburn First United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge; Korean Service medal with one Bronze Star; and the Purple Heart. He was a member of Sycamore Masonic Lodge, Hasan Shrine Temple and was a former longtime member of the Ashburn Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Shivers is survived by his wife of 51 years, Joanne Perry Shivers; two daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth Ann and Ray Jordan and Kellie and Roger Jones, all of Ashburn; two grandchildren, Matthew Ray Jordan and Maegan Catherine Jones, both of Ashburn; one brother, A.F. "Buddy" Shivers Jr. of Ashburn; and one sister-in-law, Clara Shivers of Ashburn. He was preceded in death by one brother, Carson Shivers.
