TIFTON - Roscoe C. "R.C." Newsome, 71, of Tifton, died Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. today in the chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. The Rev. Tony Roberts and Dr. Danny Ray will officiate with entombment to follow at Tift Memorial Gardens.

Don Whitaker, Mike Davis, Charles Goodman, George Helms, Luther Overstreet and Brian Atwater will serve as pallbearers. Deacons of Pine Ridge Baptist Church and members of Hospice of Tiftarea will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Newsome was born on Jan. 18, 1938, in Norman Park and was the son of Mayo Wade Newsome and Ywone Shealy Newsome, both deceased. He was retired from Tifton Aluminum and a member of Pine Ridge Baptist Church. He was a United States Air Force Vietnam veteran. He was a Mason and a member of the Amaranth.

Mr. Newsome is survived by his wife, Christine Walker Newsome of Tifton; one brother, Henry A. "Buddy" Newsome of Alapaha; and one sister, Ruby Joyce Wilson of Warner Robins.
