ADEL - Sheppard Jackson "S.J." Mixon, 77, of Adel, died Sunday, March 30, 2008, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Springhead Baptist Church. The Rev. Phillip Simmons will officiate. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery Annex. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Boone-Lipsey Funeral Home, 202 N. Hutchinson Ave., Adel.

Mr. Mixon was born on March 7, 1931 in Turner County. He was the son of Otis Samuel Mixon and Lessie Ola Lewis Mixon, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Otis Samuel Mixon Jr. and Jearl Dean Mixon, and one sister, Ola Lee Mixon Boyd.

Mr. Mixon lived in Cook County most of his life. He was a member of Springhead Baptist Church and retired from Metal Products. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the U.S. Marines having served in the Korean Conflict. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include his wife, Ethel "Louise" Powers Mixon of Adel; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dean Mixon of Adel and Lee and Tonya Mixon of Sparks; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Sondra and Richard Wilkes of Sparks and Tina and Walt Hales of Sparks; grandchildren, Pepper Wilkes and Craig Smallwood, both of Adel, Brandy Wilkes of Sparks, Tia and James King of Ty Ty, Cody Folsom and Brittany Williams, both of Sparks, Mindy Mixon and Lee Bennett, both of Stockton, Payj Hales, Brittany Mixon, Trinity Mixon and Harmony Mixon, all of Sparks; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Bray and Brooklen Wilkes, all of Adel, Adrianna and Clay King, both of Ty Ty, and Allie Bennett of Stockton; a brother, C.W. Mixon of Adel; two sisters, Velma Bennett and Minnie Ruth Noles, both of Adel; and a sister-in-law, Lucy Bailey of Nashville.
