Enigma, GA - Sonny "Pap" Mathis, 83, of Enigma, died Sunday, September 21, 2025, in the Tift Regional Medical Center.

He was born August 3, 1942, in Berrien County to the late Roy Mathis and the late Rebecca Flanders Mathis. He was a farmer, rancher and a realtor auctioneer. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, being at the river and basically piddling outside. He was a member of Pleasant Primitive Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his wife: Joyce Rowan Mathis who died in 2022; sister: Dorothy Rowland; 2 brothers: Paul Mathis and Donald Mathis.

He is survived by 4 sons: Marty (April) Mathis of Moultrie, Mike (Tricia) Mathis of Lexington, Andy Mathis of Elberton and Steven (Margo) Mathis of Nashville; 7 grandchildren: Will (Maddie), Bryce, Ben, Mitchell (Mara), Retta, Mattie Mae and Rowan; 2 great grandchildren: Iris and Alexander; sister: Eloise (Lewis) Kelly of Screven; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at 4 PM in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Elder Thad Marshall officiating. Interment will follow in the Nashville Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday from 7 to 9 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Georgia Sherriff's Boys Ranch at 5671 Boys Ranch Rd. Hahira, Ga 31632.
