Virginia  Godwin
Mrs. Virginia Godwin, 79, of Valdosta passed away Friday, Dec. 2, 2016 at Langdale Hospice House. Mrs. Godwin was born Sept. 14, 1937 to the late C. A. Barrett & Ruth Lockwood Barrett. She received a degree in music through Georgia Southern University and was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota. Mrs. Godwin retired as secretary at Lowndes County School Transportation. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Valdosta, where she was a very active member. She sung in the church choir, was in the hand bell choir, taught Kindergarten Sunday School class for many years and was a member of the Christian Homebuilders Sunday School Class. She also was the youth choir leader in a previous church that she attended. Mrs. Godwin was known as "Mama G" for the Lowndes High Georgia Bridgemen during the time her husband was one of the directors and was a member of the Old Spokes Motorcycle Club. She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother and truly special mother in law. Survivors include her husband, Bobby Godwin of Valdosta; children, Michael (Christina) Godwin of Valdosta, Danny (Cindy) Godwin of Valdosta, Susie (Devin) Schultz of Kingsland and Joani (Jammy) Statham of Abbeville; grandchildren, Brittany (Jared) Setser, Jessica (Jake) Foster, Josh (Cellest) Godwin, Avery Schultz, Nikki Schultz, Noah Schultz, Allie (Austin) Accursio and Stone Statham; great grandchildren, Owen Setser, Elizabeth Foster, Charlotte Foster, Emma Godwin, Kelli Anne Accursio and Austin Ramsey Accursio. Mrs. Godwin was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Buddy Barrett. Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 5, 2016 at First United Methodist Church in Valdosta with the Rev. Devin Schultz and the Rev. Dr. John McGowan officiating. Graveside service followed in Stauton Cemetery in Lenox.
